| I studied photography at The Southeast Center for Photographic Studies in Florida. It was here that I discovered my love for photographing people, where I could capture life's moments in an artful composition. In my third year I was featured in Shutterbug Magazine as one of the top college photographers in the United States. While attending The S.E. Center I was fortunate enough to travel and hone my skills in countries like Haiti and Mexico. After graduation I was hired as a contributing photographer for the Chinmaya Mission Project in India. When I returned from India I took my fine art and street photography style and began freelancing. I soon published work in magazines and periodicals such as Photographers Forum and The News Journal. I won a Leica award in 2000 and had my work exhibited at the Leica Gallery in New York City. In 2001 I packed up my clothes & cameras and spent six months documenting everyday life in Pakistan. I moved to New York in 2002 and began an internship with Magnum Photos. I was fortunate enough to work with Magnum photographer Burt Glinn. Since 2004 I've shot commercial work while continuing my street photography projects. Billy Joe Hoyle is based in New York City. photo Street Musician, Hamburg, Germany |
